Buying guide
What laptop specs matter in 2026?
The best deal is not always the biggest discount. Start with what you need the laptop to do, then check the specs that affect daily use.
Quick rules of thumb
- For most buyers, 16GB RAM is the safe default.
- 512GB SSD is comfortable; 1TB is better for photos, games and local files.
- A 1920x1200 or better screen is preferable to old 1366x768 panels.
- 300 nits is acceptable indoors; 400–500 nits is better for travel and bright rooms.
- For gaming, the GPU wattage/TGP can matter as much as the GPU name.
- Label restricted prices: student, BLC, Perks, trade-in, Costco and open-box deals are not the same as public new prices.
